Petit Mal or Absence Seizure in the Classroom

Those children who are actually suffering from petit mal seizure often get blamed for lack of attention or concentration, not listening to the teacher and as a result being call bad students or children with bad behavior which can also set them into a very negative spiral of actually becoming a bad student.

Many teachers are not aware of petit mal seizures and are not able to recognise when the child is having a petit mal or absence seizure.

I took these pictures from a YouTube video – are you able to see that this child is having a seizure? A lot of people will think she is just having a daydream or not paying attention to the question of the teacher.
